Directive (EU) 2024/825 amends the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and the Consumer Rights Directive. Member States must apply their transposition measures from 27 September 2026, including tighter rules on generic environmental claims and on sustainability labels shown on products or packaging.
Generic environmental claims
Claims such as "eco-friendly" or "green" without clear, verifiable criteria are restricted. You need substantiation that matches the claim and is understandable to consumers.
Review product titles, descriptions and marketing copy on every sales channel. Keep the evidence that backs each claim, or rewrite the copy before the September 2026 deadline.
Sustainability labels
EmpCo targets sustainability labels that are not based on a third-party certification scheme meeting EU requirements. Inventory every label, logo or badge on packaging and online listings.
Link each label to its scheme rules, scope and expiry, or remove it from the product record.
Related consumer information
The same Directive introduces harmonised tools for the legal guarantee of conformity and optional commercial durability labels. Product Registry also covers the legal guarantee notice module on the landing page.
This guide focuses on product environmental claims and labels tracked in the claims workspace.
How Product Registry helps
The claims module scans product copy for environmental statements, lets you attach evidence or schedule a rewrite, and lists sustainability labels tied to each SKU. Supplier evidence and CSV import use the same catalogue graph as PPWR and GPSR.
Product Registry does not approve claims and does not file anything with a surveillance authority.
Primary legal text
Product Registry organises evidence and inspection files. It is not legal advice and does not file anything with an authority for you.
